The Long War

The Long War is a serious game used by the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College Department of Joint and Multinational Operations to provide students a concrete experience on the conduct of counter-insurgency operations (COIN) at the beginning of their first class within the course.  The game reinforces current COIN doctrine and the lessons contained within the required class reading.

The Long War demonstrates that successful COIN operations are lengthy and require a different set of tactics, resources, and forces than other types of combat operations.
